The Supreme Court has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025, dealing a major setback to the Tanimu Turaki, SAN-led faction of the party.
The apex court, in its judgment delivered on Thursday, declared the convention invalid, thereby voiding the emergence of the factional national executives produced from the exercise.
The convention, which had deepened the leadership crisis within the PDP, resulted in the inauguration of a parallel national leadership under the chairmanship of Tanimu Turaki, a development that sparked intense legal and political disputes within the opposition party.
With the ruling, the Supreme Court effectively invalidated all decisions and appointments arising from the Ibadan gathering, restoring the legal position regarding the partyβs recognised leadership structure.
The judgment is expected to have far-reaching implications for the internal power struggle within the PDP as party stakeholders await the next line of action from both camps.
The decision also reinforces the courtβs position on adherence to constitutional processes in the conduct of party conventions and leadership transitions.
