The Independent National Electoral Commission (Independent National Electoral Commission) has appointed Dr. Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem as the new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Rivers State, ahead of preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Dr. Sinikiem takes over the leadership of the commission in the state at a crucial period as political activities gradually build toward the next electoral cycle.

Sources within the commission disclosed that shortly after assuming office, the new REC held a series of meetings with key officials of INEC in Rivers State to review ongoing administrative processes and strengthen preparations for future electoral responsibilities.

The meetings were said to focus on operational readiness, voter education, staff coordination, and strategies to ensure credible, transparent, and peaceful elections in the state.

His appointment is expected to play a significant role in shaping the commission’s activities in Rivers, especially as stakeholders intensify consultations ahead of the 2027 polls.

Observers believe the new REC’s leadership will be critical in sustaining public confidence in the electoral process and improving election management across the state.
