Cross River Commissioner Collapses

The Cross River State Commissioner for Power, Dr Eka Williams, has died after reportedly collapsing in Abuja.

Williams’ death was confirmed by family sources on Sunday, September 13, 2026, according to reports by Hit FM Calabar.

Sources close to the family said the commissioner collapsed in Abuja and later died while receiving treatment at a hospital in the Federal Capital Territory.

The circumstances surrounding his death had not been officially disclosed as of the time of filing this report.

His sudden death has thrown his family, friends and members of his native Akparabong community in Ikom Local Government Area into mourning.

Williams was said to have remained active in the days preceding his death.

A close friend said the late commissioner was with associates during Governor Bassey Otu’s recent visit to Ikom and was later invited by the governor to his residence for an assessment meeting following the visit.

His brother, Nkang Williams, confirmed the death and expressed shock over the sudden loss.

“I am still struggling to accept that my brother, who was recently with my family, has suddenly become a memory,” Nkang said.

Despite the grief, he said the family would celebrate the life and legacy of the late commissioner, whom he described as a man who touched lives, shared knowledge and built lasting relationships.

“His name will not simply be forgotten because he died; he will be remembered because he lived a worthy life. That is what matters,” he added.

Williams becomes the second commissioner to die under the administration of Governor Otu.

The state’s Commissioner for Tourism, Abubakar Ewa, died in 2025.
