Traditional rulers from Southern Nigeria have reaffirmed their commitment to staying above partisan politics while promoting unity, peace, and national stability across the country.
The monarchs made the declaration under the platform of the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council (SNTRC) during their meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, hosted by Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara.
The gathering was presided over by the Chairman of the Council, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Dr. Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II, the Ooni of Ife, and attended by chairmen and members from the South-South, South-East, and South-West chapters of the council.
At the meeting, the traditional rulers stressed the need for stronger unity among themselves, noting that inclusiveness and collaboration remain essential for regional progress and national development.
Speaking during the plenary session, the Ooni of Ife expressed appreciation to members for their dedication to the council and assured that resolutions reached at the meeting would be formally communicated to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He said the move would demonstrate the councilβs unity and readiness to work closely with the Federal Government in advancing peace, development, and national growth.
A statement issued on April 27, 2026, by the SNTRC Publicity Secretary, His Eminence Dr. Eberechukwu Oji-Eze Aro of Arochukwu Kingdom, Abia State, said the council also resolved to improve its internal structure.
Part of the resolutions included greater inclusion of state chairmen in the executive structure of the council to ensure broader representation and stronger participation in decision-making.
The monarchs also called for improved communication channels and better organizational clarity to prevent past operational challenges and strengthen the councilβs effectiveness.
They emphasized the need for a united and formidable front that would enable the council to play a more impactful role in national affairs.
Traditional rulers from states including Edo, Enugu, Imo, Akwa Ibom, Ogun, and Delta also used the platform to call for sustained peace, genuine reconciliation, and necessary reforms within the council.
They further reaffirmed their support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly policies aimed at economic recovery and national stability.
The meeting ended with a strong resolution to strengthen the institutional framework of the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council and continue contributing meaningfully to Nigeriaβs development.
