Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has said the ongoing construction of a 25-unit estate of six-bedroom flats for commissioners and special advisers is aimed at boosting efficiency, reducing government spending, and strengthening security.

Speaking after inspecting the project on Thursday in Port Harcourt, the governor explained that the initiative was conceived following concerns over the absence of official accommodation for top government officials.

Gov. Fubara noted that it had become embarrassing for the state government to continue spending huge sums on rented apartments for senior officials, stressing that the development informed the decision to invest in a permanent housing solution.

According to him, providing commissioners and special advisers with accommodation in one purpose-built estate would improve productivity and encourage stronger collaboration among members of the State Executive Council.

He also highlighted the security advantages of the project, saying centralising the residences of government officials would reduce the need for multiple security deployments.

β€œWhen they are all living together, it makes it easier for us to have one unit of security, and this multiple carrying of police will stop,” he said.

The governor expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and commended the contractor for the visible progress made so far, noting that the project is on course to meet its delivery timeline.

Gov. Fubara said the estate is expected to be completed and inaugurated by November, adding that it would be durable and stand as a lasting legacy of his administration.
