President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the removal of Mr. Saidu Mohammed as the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority), citing public interest.
The President also nominated Mr. Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as the new Chief Executive of the NMDPRA, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
According to a State House statement issued on Tuesday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the decision was made in line with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021 and is intended to strengthen regulatory effectiveness in Nigeriaβs midstream and downstream petroleum sector.
The statement noted that the move aligns with the administrationβs Renewed Hope Agenda and broader efforts to improve energy security, deepen sector reforms, and drive sustainable economic growth.
Rabiu Umar, described as a seasoned executive, brings over 25 years of experience spanning the energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure sectors. He is said to have built a strong reputation in strategic leadership, operational transformation, and the delivery of large-scale projects.
He holds a degree in Accounting from Bayero University and is also an alumnus of Harvard Business School.
Pending Senate confirmation of his appointment, the most senior official within the NMDPRA will oversee the agencyβs operations in an acting capacity.
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing chief executive for his service and wished him success in his future endeavours, while reaffirming his administrationβs commitment to appointing capable leaders across key regulatory institutions.
