Adeleke Rejects Accord Party Deregistration Verdict

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has condemned the Federal High Court judgment ordering the deregistration of five political parties, including the Accord Party, describing the ruling as a violation of a subsisting Court of Appeal order.

In a statement issued on Monday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor argued that the judgment amounted to an abuse of court process, insisting that the appellate court had already directed a stay of proceedings in the matter.

Adeleke expressed surprise that the Federal High Court proceeded to deliver judgment despite being presented with records of the Court of Appeal’s proceedings of May 22, 2026, which, according to him, clearly ordered that all actions on the case be halted pending the determination of the appeal.

Quoting the appellate court’s position, the governor maintained that the delivery of judgment forms part of court proceedings and should not have taken place while the stay order remained in force.

He urged residents of Osun State and members of the Accord Party to remain calm, assuring them that the Court of Appeal would hear the matter on Tuesday and expressing confidence that the party’s legal challenge would succeed.

The governor insisted that the Accord Party would remain on the ballot for the August 15 governorship election and predicted a decisive victory for the party at the polls.

Adeleke also dismissed suggestions that the judgment could disrupt the party’s electoral preparations, affirming that its campaign flag-off would proceed as scheduled.

According to him, the party’s legal team has already commenced steps to challenge the ruling and ensure that what he described as a judicial error is corrected.

He further alleged that the development was aimed at distracting the party from its campaign activities but vowed that Accord would remain focused on mobilising supporters ahead of the election.
