President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has applauded the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies for the successful operation in Kogi State that resulted in the elimination of notorious bandit leader Ibrahim Bastuji and the rescue of the widow of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar.
The President described the operation as a major breakthrough in the nation\'s ongoing fight against banditry, kidnapping, and violent crime, noting that Bastuji had long been linked to attacks, abductions, and widespread insecurity in Kogi State and neighbouring areas.
According to Tinubu, the neutralisation of the notorious criminal marks a significant setback for bandit networks operating within the region and offers renewed hope to communities that have endured years of violence and fear.
He stated that the operation demonstrates the growing effectiveness of security forces in tracking and dismantling criminal groups that threaten national peace and stability.
βI congratulate our gallant troops on this decisive milestone. Nigeria will not surrender any part of its territory to criminals. Those who choose the path of violence against innocent citizens will find no hiding place,β the President said.
Tinubu added that the success reflects the determination of the Federal Government and security agencies to secure every part of the country and deny criminal elements safe havens.
The President also commended troops for successfully rescuing Hajiya Amina Rabe Abubakar, widow of the late former Director of Defence Information, Major General Rabe Abubakar, who reportedly died in captivity after being abducted by bandits.
He described the rescue as a remarkable achievement that highlights the professionalism, courage, and operational capability of security personnel involved in the mission.
βThe safe return of Hajiya Amina Rabe Abubakar is a source of relief to her family and to all Nigerians. I commend the intelligence coordination and bravery of the officers and men who executed the rescue operation,β the President stated.
Tinubu noted that the successful rescue underscores the importance of intelligence-driven operations and collaboration among the various security agencies combating criminality across the country.
The President paid tribute to members of the Armed Forces and security services who continue to risk their lives daily in the defence of the nation, saying their sacrifices remain invaluable.
He assured Nigerians that his administration would continue to strengthen the operational capacity of the military and other security agencies through improved funding, training, logistics, and welfare support.
According to him, the government remains committed to ending banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and all forms of violent crime threatening national development and public safety.
Tinubu further urged citizens to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible and timely intelligence capable of preventing criminal activities and aiding ongoing operations.
He emphasized that defeating insecurity requires a collective effort involving government, security institutions, traditional leaders, and members of the public.
The President expressed confidence that sustained military pressure and improved intelligence gathering would continue to weaken criminal networks and restore peace to affected communities across the country.
The latest operation in Kogi State has been widely hailed as one of the most significant security successes in recent months, reinforcing confidence in the nation\'s efforts to confront armed banditry and protect lives and property.
