The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nantawe Yilwatda, has declared that winning the August 15 Osun State governorship election is a top priority for the ruling party, describing the poll as a crucial test ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Yilwatda made the declaration on Tuesday in Abuja during the inauguration of the party\'s 291-member National Campaign Council for the Osun governorship election. The council is chaired by Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma.

According to the APC national chairman, the Osun election represents the party\'s final off-season electoral contest before the next general elections and will serve as a rehearsal for its political strategy and organisational capacity in 2027. He said the party would deploy its full resources and mobilise members across the country to secure victory.

He explained that the campaign council was deliberately constituted with governors, ministers, deputy governors, serving and former lawmakers, as well as other influential stakeholders, to ensure effective coordination, mobilisation and delivery of electoral success. Yilwatda expressed confidence that the calibre of the team would strengthen the party\'s chances of reclaiming Osun State.

The APC chairman also described his party as Nigeria\'s most experienced political platform, citing its large pool of elected officials, former office holders and recent defections from opposition parties. He maintained that the wealth of experience within the APC would be instrumental in achieving victory at the polls.

In his acceptance speech, Governor Uzodimma thanked the party leadership for entrusting the council with the assignment and pledged to lead a peaceful, united and result-oriented campaign. He urged all party members and stakeholders to work together, stressing that unity, discipline and commitment would be essential to returning Osun State to the APC fold.
