The Federal Government has identified seven common mistakes that often prevent Nigerians from securing public service jobs, urging applicants to adhere strictly to official recruitment guidelines and avoid fraudulent schemes.

The warning was issued by the Federal Character Commission (FCC) in a public awareness message published on its website, where it advised job seekers to rely only on verified government channels when seeking employment opportunities.

According to the commission, many applicants unknowingly weaken their chances of success by submitting incorrect information, ignoring application requirements or depending on unofficial websites and social media platforms for recruitment announcements.

The FCC listed the major pitfalls to avoid as applying through unverified sources, paying individuals to secure government jobs, disregarding eligibility requirements, missing application deadlines, providing inaccurate information, failing to prepare for aptitude tests and interviews, and assuming every advertised vacancy is genuine.

The commission cautioned applicants against paying anyone who claims to have the influence to guarantee employment, stressing that federal recruitment processes are conducted in line with established procedures. It urged Nigerians to report suspicious recruitment activities and verify all vacancy announcements through recognised government platforms.

The FCC also clarified that it does not recruit workers into ministries, departments and agencies. Rather, it oversees compliance with the Federal Character Principle and provides a platform where verified vacancies from federal institutions can be published. The commission encouraged job seekers to apply only through official channels, submit accurate information and remain vigilant against fraudulent recruitment offers.
