The Federal Government has unveiled the Government Service Portal (GSP), a unified digital platform designed to provide Nigerians with seamless access to public services through a single online gateway, marking another milestone in the country\'s digital transformation agenda.
The portal, developed by Galaxy Backbone in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), is aimed at improving efficiency, transparency and accountability in public service delivery. The platform is expected to simplify citizens\' interactions with government institutions by providing faster, easier and more secure access to essential services.
Speaking at the soft launch in Abuja on Tuesday, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mr Nadungu Gagare, represented by the Director of E-Government, Mr Johnson Bareyi, described the initiative as one of the flagship projects under Nigeria\'s e-Government Masterplan 2.0. He said the project was developed through collaboration between government agencies and development partners to modernise public service delivery.
According to Gagare, the portal enables citizens to access multiple government services using a single secure sign-in, eliminating the need for repeated registrations and submissions across various government platforms. He noted that the initiative aligns with the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan, as well as Nigeria\'s Digital Public Infrastructure agenda.
He explained that the platform would integrate with the Nigerian Digital Exchange to facilitate secure information sharing among authorised government institutions, reduce duplication of processes, minimise service delays, improve transparency, strengthen accountability and enhance the ease of doing business across the country. He also urged Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to integrate their digital services into the portal to maximise its benefits for citizens and businesses.
Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, described the Government Service Portal as a major step towards building a connected, efficient and citizen-focused digital government. He said the platform would eliminate the long-standing challenge of citizens navigating multiple government websites and offices by providing a single location for accessing government services.
Adeyanju disclosed that the soft launch would allow pioneer MDAs to come onboard while user experience is monitored and improvements made ahead of nationwide deployment. He stressed that the long-term success of the initiative would depend on sustained collaboration among government institutions, adding that the true measure of its impact would be the ease with which Nigerians access public services and the trust it builds between government and the people.
Executive Director of Digital Exploration and Technical Services at Galaxy Backbone, Mr Olumbe Akinkugbe, revealed that extensive User Acceptance Testing was conducted across the six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory with 184 participants. He said more than 80 per cent of users described the portal as user-friendly, while 88 per cent successfully located government services and 91 per cent expressed willingness to use the platform in the future.
Akinkugbe added that feedback from the pilot exercise identified areas requiring improvement, including user registration, image capture and One-Time Password delivery. He said Galaxy Backbone would strengthen the platform\'s security architecture, onboard more MDAs and introduce email and WhatsApp verification channels during the pilot phase to enhance user experience.
Also speaking, KOICA\'s Senior Deputy Country Director, Mr Baik Ki-hyun, described the portal as a landmark achievement in Nigeria-Republic of Korea bilateral cooperation. He noted that the initiative was the flagship outcome of the four-year \"Building Foundations Towards Digital Governance in Nigeria\" project and expressed confidence that Galaxy Backbone and its partners would continue improving the platform as more government services are integrated for citizens and businesses nationwide.
