The Northern Christian Association (NCA) has called for an investigation into a viral video allegedly showing youths suspected to be Muslims demanding AK-47 rifles to travel to Enugu State and kill people they described as infidels.
The association condemned the alleged remarks as barbaric and disturbing, warning that they could pose a serious security threat if verified.
In a statement issued to journalists on Monday, NCA Chairman, Rev. Joseph John Hayab, said the authenticity of the video must first be established before conclusions are drawn.
Hayab, however, expressed concern that individuals could allegedly make hateful statements and issue threats of violence without attracting appropriate security scrutiny.
He stressed that the matter should not be reduced to a religious controversy but treated as a potential security concern requiring urgent attention from relevant authorities.
βWhile we will not conclude until the authenticity of the video is verified, it now seems that some individuals have become so powerful that they can make hateful remarks and go scot-free without any security checks,β he said.
Describing the alleged chants as unacceptable, the NCA chairman urged Christian and Muslim leaders to take responsibility for raising their children with values that promote tolerance, discipline, respect for human life and peaceful coexistence.
He warned that religious indoctrination that encourages hatred and hostility towards people of other faiths could threaten national unity and deepen divisions among Nigerians.
Hayab maintained that religious teachings should promote compassion, mutual respect and peaceful relationships rather than encourage young people to embrace violence against those with different beliefs.
