The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for stronger collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) in the areas of community policing, professional training, emergency response and disaster management.
The call was made on Monday during a courtesy visit by the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, and members of the Society\'s leadership to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The delegation, led by Engr. Rabiu, included Engr. Kashim Abdul Ali, Engr. Tasiu Sa\'ad Gidan Wudil, Engr. Aliyu Ibrahim Dutsinma, Engr. Mohammed Kabir Wanori, Engr. Ademola Isaac Agoro, Engr. Dauda Musa and Engr. Musa Ibrahim Musa.
During the meeting, both institutions explored opportunities for enhanced collaboration in community policing, capacity building and coordinated emergency response as part of efforts to improve public safety and national security.
Speaking on behalf of the Society, Engr. Rabiu conveyed the goodwill of the NSE Council and its members to the Inspector-General, congratulating him on the achievements recorded by the Nigeria Police Force under his leadership.
He commended the longstanding relationship between the NSE and the Police, noting the Force\'s continued support for the Society\'s activities over the years. He also informed the Inspector-General of the Society\'s forthcoming 2026 International Engineering Conference and Annual General Meeting scheduled to hold in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Rabiu appealed for the continued support of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly in providing adequate security and participating in the annual conference.
Responding, IGP Disu described engineers as indispensable partners in Nigeria\'s development and praised their professionalism and contributions to national growth.
The Inspector-General also paid tribute to police personnel serving in Maiduguri, acknowledging their commitment and sacrifices in maintaining peace and security in the region despite prevailing security challenges.
He assured the Society that the Nigeria Police Force would provide the necessary security support for the successful hosting of the conference and reiterated the Force\'s commitment to sustained engagement with professional bodies.
IGP Disu further urged the Nigerian Society of Engineers to support the Police through public enlightenment campaigns aimed at strengthening community policing initiatives across the country.
He also encouraged the Society to involve the Police in the planning and execution of its training programmes to enhance knowledge sharing and build the capacity of police personnel.
The Inspector-General identified emergency response and disaster management as critical areas where both institutions could work together to improve preparedness and protect lives and property.
He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force\'s commitment to strengthening institutional partnerships with professional organisations such as the Nigerian Society of Engineers as part of its broader efforts to improve policing, public safety and national development.
