The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Olatunji Disu, has visited Niger State to assess the security situation following the recent attack and abduction of worshippers in communities within the Dekara District of Borgu Local Government Area.
During the working visit on Saturday, the police chief met with the Niger State Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba, who represented Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, alongside the Commissioner for Homeland Security, Maurice Bello Magaji, at the Government House in Minna.
Disu conveyed the condolences of the Nigeria Police Force to the state government, the affected communities, and families of the victims, assuring them that security agencies were committed to rescuing the abducted persons and bringing those responsible for the attack to justice.
The IGP praised the Commissioner of Police in Niger State, Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, for the command's prompt response to the incident and timely intelligence reports.
He also commended the Niger State Government for its continued support to the police, particularly through the provision of operational vehicles, repairs of Armoured Personnel Carriers, and welfare assistance for officers.
Addressing officers and men of the Niger State Police Command, Disu directed them to sustain intelligence-driven and professionally coordinated operations while placing the safety of victims and residents at the centre of all rescue efforts.
He assured the command of continued support from the Force Headquarters through improved logistics, mobility, intelligence, training, and operational resources to strengthen security operations in the state.
The Inspector-General further ordered the command to deepen collaboration with other security agencies and strengthen engagement with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and community stakeholders to improve intelligence gathering and early response to security threats.
Speaking during the visit, Deputy Governor Garba commended the IGP for personally visiting the state and reaffirmed the Niger State Government's commitment to supporting security agencies in restoring peace and securing the release of the abducted victims.
As part of the visit, Disu also paid a condolence visit to the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Farouk Bahago, where he emphasised the critical role of traditional institutions in supporting community policing, intelligence sharing, and efforts to improve security across the state.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to rescuing the abducted worshippers, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that those behind the attack are apprehended and prosecuted.
