The Nigeria Police Force has arrested five suspected armed robbers over the theft of a consignment of mobile phones and accessories valued at about ₦100 million in Ogun State.
The suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS) following a petition submitted to the Inspector-General of Police by Sanniphil Company over the violent robbery of its goods.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the investigation began on August 10, 2026, after the petition was received. The operation led to the arrest of the suspects in Ogun State.
Police investigations revealed that the gang allegedly attacked a company vehicle transporting mobile phones and accessories from Lagos to Onitsha at about 7:00 p.m. on August 5, 2026. The attackers reportedly made away with the entire consignment worth approximately ₦100 million.
The arrested suspects were identified as Okori Joyus, 23; Yetunde Lasisi, 53; Usen Samuel, 20; Usen Wisdom, 25; and Quadri Oluwadare, 56.
Items recovered from the suspects include 81 brand-new smartphones and 196 phone chargers believed to be part of the stolen consignment.
The police said efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the robbery gang who are still at large and recover the remaining stolen items.
The Force reaffirmed its commitment to combating violent crime and protecting businesses and citizens across the country.
