The Delta Past Student Leaders Community (DPSLC), popularly known as the Comrade Community, has called for the immediate resignation of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, over what it described as the worsening security situation across the country.
In a statement issued on Monday and jointly signed by its President, Akpotoboro Oghenemaro, and Public Relations Officer, Peter Yisah, the group expressed concern over the persistent cases of kidnappings, attacks on schools, killings and displacement of communities nationwide.
According to the association, the current security challenges have continued to erode public confidence in the nation’s security architecture despite efforts by the government to address them.
The group argued that after years in office, the National Security Adviser had not delivered the level of improvement Nigerians expected, noting that kidnapping for ransom remains a major threat to citizens, travellers and communities across the country.
DPSLC cited the reported abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15, 2026, as an example of the growing insecurity affecting educational institutions and rural communities.
The student leaders further stated that many farmers have abandoned their farmlands due to fear of attacks, while economic and social activities in several parts of the country have been disrupted by insecurity.
The group said it had lost confidence in Ribadu’s ability to effectively coordinate the nation’s security agencies and called on him to step aside in the interest of national security.
According to the statement, a change in leadership at the office of the National Security Adviser would create an opportunity for what it described as more effective and result-oriented management of security challenges.
The association also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint a replacement capable of restoring public confidence and improving the protection of lives and property across the country.
DPSLC maintained that insecurity remains one of the most critical challenges confronting the current administration and warned that failure to address the situation decisively could have political consequences ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group also raised concerns about public perceptions surrounding the handling of security matters and questioned the effectiveness of intelligence-gathering and surveillance operations against criminal groups operating in different parts of the country.
It stressed that national security policies and actions should be driven solely by the interests of Nigerians and called for greater accountability among officials responsible for managing the country's security framework.
“This demand is not personal. It is a demand for accountability. National security is too important to be sacrificed on the altar of loyalty. The President must replace the NSA with a professional whose allegiance is to the Constitution and the Nigerian people,” the statement said.
The organisation added that defeating insecurity remains essential to protecting lives, restoring confidence in government institutions and creating an environment conducive to national development and economic growth.
