The Obio/Akpor Local Government Council has issued a seven-day notice to traders and occupants of illegal and makeshift structures around the Tam-David West Boulevard Interchange Flyover, popularly known as the Obiri-Ikwerre Flyover, to vacate the area.
The directive, announced on Tuesday, affects all unauthorised kiosks, shanties, containers, stalls and temporary attachments erected on the flyover, road setbacks, pedestrian walkways and adjoining right-of-way corridors.
The council said the action is part of its statutory responsibility to guarantee public safety, ensure the free flow of traffic, promote environmental sanitation and protect critical public infrastructure within the local government area.
It advised all affected persons to remove the illegal structures within seven days from the date of the notice, warning that no compensation would be paid for any structure demolished.
The council further stated that enforcement would commence immediately after the expiration of the notice, with full demolition and evacuation of all remaining illegal structures without further warning.
Defaulters, the council warned, would bear the consequences arising from the enforcement exercise.
Chairman of the council, Hon. Dr. Gift Worlu, urged residents and traders to cooperate with the directive in the interest of orderliness, safety and sustainable urban development.
