The Coordinator of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement in Rivers State, Dr Kingsley Ogu, has said ongoing federal projects and policies in the state will strengthen President Bola Tinubu’s support base ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Ogu stated this weekend in Port Harcourt, while speaking after an expanded executive meeting of the movement.
He said the group would embark on grassroots mobilisation to explain to Rivers residents what it described as the impact of the Tinubu administration’s policies and projects in the state.
The meeting also featured a restructuring of the movement’s leadership, with Ogu emerging as State Coordinator and Bro Tammy Soberekon as Deputy Coordinator. The exercise also affected some state, senatorial district, federal constituency and local government coordinators, as well as women leaders in some LGAs.
According to Ogu, the restructuring was aimed at strengthening unity, inclusiveness and productivity within the organisation ahead of the 2027 political season.
He identified the planned resumption of oil exploration in Ogoni as one of the major developments that could affect the economic fortunes of Rivers State.
Ogu said renewed oil activities in Ogoni could create employment and stimulate small and medium-scale businesses, adding that the impact would extend to communities across the area.
“Let me tell you, when there is a re-entry in Ogoni, a lot of Rivers people will be employed. And because Rivers people will be employed at a macro level, then the micro level; small and medium-scale businesses and the grassroots, will also be empowered,” he said.
He also cited the establishment of the Federal University of Environment in Ogoni, saying the institution would attract students, workers, businesses and other economic activities to the area.
Ogu further mentioned activities around OML 58, the UBETA gas project and the second phase of the ASA gas project as developments he said reflected increased attention to the state’s oil and gas sector.
He also listed the removal of petrol subsidy among the Federal Government’s major policies, while acknowledging its impact on Nigerians.
According to him, government initiatives involving gas-powered transportation could provide cheaper alternatives and reduce dependence on petrol.
Ogu also advocated state police, saying stronger state-level security structures could improve responses to security challenges and help curb the movement of criminals across state boundaries.
He commended the founder of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, whom he described as passionate about the development of the Niger Delta.
Ogu also praised Tantita Security Services for its role in protecting oil infrastructure and supporting crude oil production.
He said the movement would intensify its grassroots campaign by visiting communities and engaging residents directly on what it considers the benefits of the Tinubu administration.
“Our leader, High Chief Government Oweizide Ekpemupolo, is a result-oriented leader. Whatever he puts his hands on succeeds, and so we are going to get success in this goal of re-electing President Tinubu,” Ogu said.
