The Osun State Police Command has dismissed as false a viral video claiming to show police officers fleeing from a drone, describing the footage as a scene from a Yoruba movie production.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, said the video was taken from Omije Fun Omije Part 2, a Yoruba film produced in May 2026, and did not depict any real police operation.
According to the command, the scene involved the use of a police patrol vehicle for the movie, while an actor dressed in police uniform briefly ran after the moving vehicle before boarding it as part of the script.
The command explained that a passerby who was not part of the film crew recorded the scene, falsely labelled it as police officers running away from a drone, and circulated it on social media.
It added that the drone seen in the footage was being used by the film crew for production and was never involved in pursuing police officers.
The police described the viral claim as misleading and damaging to the image of the Nigeria Police Force.
"The Command rejects the narrative that serving police officers fled from a drone. The claim is false, inconsistent with the facts and injurious to the reputation of the Force," the statement said.
The command also criticised the circulation of the video without proper verification, stressing that responsible journalism requires confirming facts before publishing or amplifying such content.
It warned that presenting out-of-context footage as evidence of police misconduct undermines public trust and unfairly ridicules security institutions.
The command called on those sharing the video to withdraw the misleading caption, issue corrections and clarify that the footage originated from a movie set rather than an actual police operation.
It further urged the public to refrain from using staged or unrelated videos to portray police officers as cowardly or unprofessional.
Reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, the Osun State Police Command said it remains dedicated to protecting lives and property and welcomes factual reporting.
However, it warned that it would not tolerate the deliberate distortion of images, videos or media reports aimed at tarnishing the image of the command.
