Police have launched an investigation into the death of a 51-year-old man, identified as Brutus Egagha, whose decomposing body was discovered inside his duplex in the Woji area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The body was reportedly found at his residence on Unity Close, near the Federal Housing Estate, after neighbours and his security guard raised concerns over a persistent foul odour coming from the building.
According to claims circulating on social media, the security guard initially believed Egagha had travelled abroad to visit his family, as he had not seen him for several days.
However, after the smell intensified and neighbours complained, the guard reportedly looked through a window and saw his employer motionless on a couch. Residents later forced the door open and discovered his lifeless body.
Unverified reports claim the deceased may have been dead for nearly two weeks before the discovery. It was also alleged that used sanitary pads and a pair of women's underwear were found inside the house.
The social media posts further made sensational allegations linking the deceased to alleged ritual practices and claimed that several women had previously been victimised by him. However, there is no official evidence or confirmation from the police to support these allegations.
As of the time of filing this report, the Rivers State Police Command had not issued a statement confirming the cause of death or the circumstances surrounding the items allegedly recovered from the residence.
Authorities are expected to conduct forensic examinations as part of ongoing investigations to determine the cause of death.
The public has been urged to avoid spreading unverified claims while investigations continue.
