Niger Delta musician and cultural icon, Asu Ekiye, has announced the end of his 28-year marriage to Kunemofa Asu.
Ekiye, popularly known as the "Prince of the Niger Delta," made the announcement in a public notice on Thursday, describing the decision as the conclusion of a “deeply personal journey of growth, experience and reflection.”
He said the marriage had actually ended a year ago but explained that he deliberately delayed making the information public to allow time for reflection and acceptance.
"After 28 years of a deeply personal journey of growth, experience and reflection, I wish to announce, with a profound sense of sobriety and quiet resignation, that my marriage to Kunemofa Asu has come to an end," he said.
The veteran entertainer added that he was choosing to close the chapter "with grace, gratitude and dignity" while looking ahead to a new phase of life.
"For the avoidance of doubt, this marriage ended a year ago. I have deliberately chosen to make this announcement only now, after allowing time to bring the perspective, clarity and quiet acceptance that such a deeply personal transition deserves," he stated.
Ekiye did not disclose the circumstances surrounding the separation or whether any legal proceedings were involved. He also appealed for understanding as he moves forward into what he described as “a new season.”
