President Bola Tinubu has prayed for sustainable peace, national unity and harmony in Nigeria during the performance of the lesser Hajj (Umrah) in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
Tinubu performed the Islamic spiritual exercise early Friday at the Grand Mosque, Masjid al-Haram, where he offered prayers of gratitude to Almighty Allah and sought divine guidance and protection for Nigeria.
The President also prayed for wisdom for the country's leaders, stronger bonds of brotherhood among Nigerians and lasting relief from insecurity and other challenges confronting the nation.
Speaking with journalists shortly after the exercise, Tinubu described the Umrah as significant, particularly in reaffirming his commitment to Nigeria, its people and the will of Almighty Allah.
He said the spiritual exercise provided an opportunity to pray for the country and its citizens, expressing gratitude to God for making it possible.
"I am grateful to Allah for being able to perform this Umrah. We have just prayed for our nation, for everyone to live in peace and harmony, happiness and faith in God Almighty," he said.
Tinubu expressed hope that Nigeria would sustain its progress towards economic prosperity, social development and a more secure future for its citizens.
He also reaffirmed his administration's commitment to building a peaceful, united and prosperous country where Nigerians, irrespective of religious or ethnic backgrounds, could live in safety, dignity and harmony.
The statement was issued on Friday by the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
