The Rivers State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dr. Gabriel Pidomson, has warned against electoral malpractice ahead of the 2027 governorship election, expressing confidence in the party’s chances of victory.
Pidomson spoke during the inauguration of the party’s 2027 Rivers State Governorship Campaign Council at the NAFOWA Event Centre, Air Force Base, Port Harcourt.
He charged members of the council to remain committed and focused, saying the party was prepared to confront any attempt to undermine the electoral process.
“We shall meet each new challenge with the same aggressive attitude,” he said, warning those allegedly planning to rig the election to abandon such intentions.
The ADC governorship candidate urged the campaign team to give its best towards securing victory, expressing optimism about the party’s prospects in the forthcoming election.
Inaugurating the council, the state chairman of the party, Chief Chukwudi Dimkpa, tasked members with taking the ADC’s message of hope, opportunity, development and good governance to communities, wards and local government areas across the state.
Dimkpa stressed that electoral success required more than enthusiasm, noting that effective organisation, discipline, strategic planning, mobilisation and public confidence were essential to winning elections.
The campaign council is chaired by Senator Andrew Uchendu, while Hon. Chimbiko Akarolo serves as Director-General and Mr. Princely Miyene Senibo as Campaign Secretary.
Four deputy director-generals will oversee campaign strategy and planning, communication and media, field operations and mobilisation, as well as stakeholder management and support groups.
Speaking on behalf of the council members, Uchendu described their appointments as a sacred responsibility, recalling the sacrifices made by the founding fathers of Rivers State.
“This great state was not given; it was fought for,” he said, adding that the struggle for the state’s creation was driven by patriotism and selflessness.
He questioned whether the aspirations of the state’s founding fathers had been fulfilled, lamenting that political supremacy battles among some influential actors had diverted attention from critical sectors of development.
Uchendu said the campaign council had accepted the responsibility of working towards rescuing the state and placing it on the path of progress.
According to the campaign council’s Head of Press and Media Relations, Niabari Raymond Ledogo, the body comprises more than 600 members selected to drive the party’s campaign ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
