The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Rivers State has urged corps members to promote positive cultural practices, peace and national unity in their host communities and beyond.

The State Coordinator, Mr Moses Oleghe, gave the charge during the inter-platoon cultural carnival competition for 2026 Batch C Stream I corps members deployed to the state.

Oleghe urged the corps members to serve as ambassadors of positive cultural values by promoting peace, fostering national unity and integration, and strengthening cultural harmony among Nigerians of diverse backgrounds.

He described the carnival as an opportunity to celebrate Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and diversity, while providing a platform for corps members to build stronger bonds of unity and mutual understanding.

The state coordinator commended the participants for their active involvement in the event, describing them as ambassadors of peace and harmony. He urged them to make their service year meaningful and impactful.

The carnival featured colourful cultural performances by 10 platoons, each showcasing the traditions and heritage of different ethnic groups across Nigeria.

At the end of the competition, Platoon Three, which presented Bini culture, emerged winner. Platoon Nine, which showcased Ibibio culture, came second, while Platoon Seven, which presented Tiv culture, secured third place.

The winners and runners-up received cash prizes and gift items from the event sponsors, including AddMe, Crown Premium Pasta, Mama’s Pride Groundnut Oil, Premium Semolina and Peak Milk.
