The Rivers State Police Command has queried and relieved the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Abuloma Division and the officer overseeing the Abuloma Police Outpost following allegations that suspected cultists renovated the facility.

Relieve DPO Over Cultists’ Renovation Claim

The action follows a trending social media report and circulating video alleging that suspected cultists visited the outpost on Thursday, October 15, 2026, to celebrate the completion of the renovation.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, the Command said Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju, had ordered a full investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and verify the allegations.

The police condemned any action or association capable of compromising the integrity, discipline and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force or conferring legitimacy on suspected cult groups.

It stressed that police facilities were public institutions established to protect citizens and enforce the law and must not be used by criminal groups to seek public recognition or influence.

The investigation will determine the identities and backgrounds of the individuals or groups that financed or facilitated the renovation, as well as the officers who authorised or approved the project.

It will also establish whether due procedures were followed, whether any personnel breached professional standards and the extent of any police officers’ involvement.

The Command, however, acknowledged that legitimate community support for improving police facilities was permitted under Section 26(1)(d) of the Nigeria Police Act, 2020, which provides for gifts and contributions to the Police General Fund.

It maintained that such assistance must not compromise police independence, professional standards or security, adding that the investigation would determine whether the necessary approvals were obtained and appropriate checks conducted on those behind the renovation.

The police emphasised that no donation or assistance could confer immunity from investigation or prosecution.

The Command further reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on unprofessional conduct, compromise and improper association with criminal elements, warning that any personnel found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary and legal action.

It reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, transparency, the protection of lives and property, and the fight against cultism and organised crime in Rivers State.

The police urged members of the public to remain calm and continue providing credible and timely information to support security operations across the state.

Members of the public can report complaints through the Police Complaint Response Unit on 07057605209, 07057605256, 08120822987 and 07072323049, or contact the Police Control Room on 08032003514.
