RIVCHPP Urges Retirees to Use Health Insurance Benefits

Targets 111,865 Enrollees, Begins LGA Mop-Up Exercise

The Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP) has urged retired state government workers enrolled in its health insurance scheme to utilise their benefits and access medical services at their designated healthcare facilities.

The appeal followed findings presented at the agency’s Third Quarter Management Review Meeting in Port Harcourt, which indicated that retirees were not utilising healthcare services under the programme as expected.

RIVCHPP expressed concern over the development, stressing that the health insurance scheme was designed to improve access to medical care and reduce the financial burden of healthcare expenses on beneficiaries.

The agency confirmed that verified Rivers State Government retirees had been enrolled in the programme and encouraged them to visit their assigned healthcare facilities whenever they required medical attention.

It also advised retirees who were unsure of their designated facilities or wished to change their existing healthcare providers to contact its call centre for clarification and assistance.

The designated telephone numbers are 08085315664 and 09046962204.

The programme emphasised that enrolment in the state’s health insurance scheme was intended to guarantee access to essential healthcare services, urging beneficiaries not to allow their entitlements to remain unused.

In a related development, RIVCHPP has announced an increase in its enrolment target under the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) from 84,054 to 111,865 beneficiaries.

The revised target followed the third-quarter review meeting of the Forum of State Social Health Insurance Agencies (SSHIAs) in Abuja and subsequent correspondence from the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).

To achieve the new target, RIVCHPP management has resolved to conduct a Local Government Area (LGA) enrolment mop-up exercise in October and November 2026.

The exercise is aimed at expanding health insurance coverage across Rivers State by reaching more eligible residents and ensuring that the programme meets the revised enrolment target.

RIVCHPP has consequently urged eligible residents to obtain their National Identification Number (NIN), a key requirement for enrolment, to enable them to access health insurance coverage and essential medical services under the programme.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to expanding healthcare access and encouraging greater participation in the state’s contributory health insurance scheme.
