The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has debunked a fraudulent online publication purporting to be a special announcement by the commission on governorship candidates in six states.
The commission, in public notice, identified the affected states as Zamfara, Gombe, Delta, Plateau, Yobe and Kano, describing the circulating publication as fake.
INEC categorically stated that the publication did not originate from the commission and urged members of the public to disregard it and refrain from sharing it.
The electoral body also dismissed claims that it had issued any special announcement concerning governorship candidates in the six states, warning that such information was false.
It advised Nigerians to verify electoral information through its official communication channels, including its website, inecnigeria.org, Facebook page, INEC Nigeria, and its X and Instagram handles, @inecnigeria.
The commission also directed members of the public to its news portal, inecnews.com, for authentic updates and official announcements.
INEC urged the public to remain vigilant against misinformation, particularly concerning electoral matters, and to confirm the authenticity of online publications before circulating them.
For enquiries and further clarification, members of the public can contact the commission through its call centre on 0700-2255-4632, short code 4632, or telephone numbers 090844444333 and 09050858629.
The commission also provided the email address iccc@inec.gov.ng for further enquiries.
INEC reiterated its commitment to providing accurate electoral information and urged Nigerians to rely exclusively on its verified communication channels for official updates.
