The Rivers State Government has urged youths across the state to take advantage of ongoing Nigerian Army recruitment opportunities to build careers, acquire skills and serve the nation.
The Secretary to the State Government, Dr Dagogo Wokoma, made the call on Wednesday during an interaction between representatives of the Nigerian Army, traditional rulers and youth leaders from the 23 Local Government Areas of the state.
Wokoma said the effectiveness of the military depended largely on the quality of young men and women recruited into its ranks, noting that today’s recruits and junior officers could become tomorrow’s commanders and national leaders.
He encouraged Rivers youths to consider military service as a career that could provide opportunities for professional growth while enabling them to contribute to their families, communities and the country.
The leader of the sensitisation team from Army Headquarters, Abuja, Brigadier-General B. U. Ugbaji, also urged youths to participate in the recruitment exercise.
Ugbaji said the exercise followed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive for the recruitment of 28,000 personnel, stressing that Rivers State should ensure its allocated quota was fully utilised.
He warned that the state’s representation in the military could decline if youths failed to take advantage of available recruitment opportunities.
According to him, interested candidates should meet the stipulated requirements and apply for the ongoing 92 Regular Recruit Intake for trades and non-tradesmen and women.
Ugbaji added that the Nigerian Army offers opportunities for educational development and career advancement beyond basic military service.
Speaking on behalf of traditional rulers, the Gbenemene and Kasimene of Ancient Bangh Kingdom VIII, HRM King Suanu T. U. Baridam, pledged that traditional rulers would return to their communities to sensitise youths and encourage qualified candidates to apply.
The meeting also allowed youth representatives from the 23 LGAs to ask questions and obtain clarification on the recruitment process.
The Nigerian Army recruitment portal will remain open until October 21, 2026.
