The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has urged corps members to make meaningful use of their service year, describing them as the “pride of Nigeria” and future contributors to national development.

The Ag. Director, NYSC South South Area Office II, Port Harcourt, Mrs Olayinka Diana Nasamu, gave the charge during an oversight visit to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp at Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Addressing the 2026 Batch C Stream I corps members, Nasamu urged them to approach the service year with discipline, resilience, integrity, diligence and hard work.

She said the NYSC Scheme provides young graduates with a valuable platform for self-discovery, personal development and capacity building.

Nasamu also advised the corps members to obey all camp rules and regulations and remain grateful to God, their parents and guardians for the opportunities that had brought them to that stage of their lives.

She encouraged them to take the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development training seriously, stressing that the programme could provide useful skills and opportunities beyond the service year.

The NYSC official further urged the corps members to cultivate good relationships, love one another and build enduring friendships during their orientation and service year.

She cautioned them against night travel, advising them to prioritise their safety and exercise caution whenever they travel.

Earlier, the NYSC Rivers State Coordinator, Mr Moses Oleghe, described the corps members as patriotic and excellent in their participation in camp activities.

Oleghe disclosed that 3,280 corps members, comprising 1,380 males and 1,900 females, were participating in the orientation exercise.

He said the orientation programme had been proceeding smoothly, with the corps members actively engaging in the various activities designed to prepare them for their national service.

Nasamu urged the corps members to see the service year as an opportunity to develop themselves, serve their communities and contribute positively to Nigeria’s growth.
