The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has ordered an investigation into allegations that a police officer demanded N450,000 from a complainant for “mobilisation and petition” during an investigation.
The allegation was made in a video circulating on social media by a content creator identified as Tumma Gabriel.
Gabriel alleged that he was asked to provide the money while attempting to bring a matter before the Criminal Investigation Department of the FCT Police Command.
Reacting to the allegation, the Command said it strongly condemned any act of solicitation by its personnel and stressed that officers are not authorised to demand or solicit money from members of the public in connection with police investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has consequently ordered a thorough investigation to establish the facts surrounding the allegation and identify any officer who may be involved.
The Command said any officer found culpable would be dealt with in accordance with the provisions of the Police Act and Regulations.
The police also appealed to the complainant to contact the Command through 08180382808 and visit the Command Headquarters to provide information that could assist the investigation.
The Command assured the public that the allegation would be properly investigated and appropriate action taken based on the outcome.
