Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday, October 5, 2026, paid his maiden official visit to the INTERPOL General Secretariat in Lyon, France, as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s international policing cooperation and response to transnational crimes.
Disu met with the INTERPOL Secretary General, Valdecy Urquiza, and other senior officials of the organisation during the visit.
Discussions centred on strengthening collaboration in key areas, including cybercrime, counter-terrorism, financial crimes, organised crime, fugitive tracking and intelligence sharing.
The meeting also focused on improving Nigeria’s use of INTERPOL databases, policing tools and other international mechanisms for combating cross-border criminal activities.
The engagement provided an opportunity to review Nigeria’s participation in INTERPOL-supported initiatives and identify additional areas for technical and operational cooperation.
The police authorities also explored ways to enhance criminal intelligence analysis, cross-border investigations and efforts to disrupt transnational criminal networks.
Disu was accompanied by AIG Olaolu Adegbite, Head of INTERPOL Nigeria and the National Central Bureau, Abuja; AIG Ezima Akaninyene Ifem, Director of the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre; AIG Akoh Benedict Gabriel, Head of the Nigeria Police Counter Terrorism Unit; and CP Ojajuni Olubode, INTERPOL Africa Committee Member.
The Nigeria Police Force said the engagement underscored its commitment to strengthening partnerships with INTERPOL and other international law-enforcement agencies.
The Force added that it would continue to leverage intelligence, technology and global policing capabilities to tackle emerging security threats and prevent criminal networks from exploiting international borders.
