Fubara to NYSC Members: You’re vital to Rivers’ development

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has described members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state as critical assets to its growth and development.

Fubara stated this on Thursday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area, while presiding over the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch C Stream I Corps Members deployed to Rivers State.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Promise Oguzie, the governor urged the NYSC management to continue to introduce pragmatic reforms that would keep the scheme relevant to the changing needs of young graduates.

He also called for the expansion of the scope and operations of the scheme\'s flagship programmes to make it more impactful, relevant and acceptable to Nigerians.

Fubara further urged Corps Members to uphold integrity, honesty, patriotism and the fear of God, particularly when they serve as ad hoc staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the 2027 general elections.

He said their conduct in the electoral process would be important in sustaining the trust Nigerians have placed in them.

In his welcome address, the NYSC Rivers State Coordinator, Mr Moses Oleghe, expressed confidence that the Corps Members were physically, mentally, psychologically and emotionally prepared to serve the country and make positive contributions to the state.

Oleghe commended Governor Fubara for approving the construction of 1,000-capacity hostels each for male and female Corps Members, as well as a new NYSC state secretariat and State Coordinator\'s lodge.

He expressed optimism that contractors handling the projects would soon be mobilised to site.

A total of 3,414 Corps Members took the oath of allegiance during the ceremony, which was administered by Justice Frank Onyiri on behalf of the Chief Judge of Rivers State.
