Chief Dumo Lulu-Briggs has called on the people of Rivers State to embrace peace, unity and responsible political participation as Nigeria marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
Lulu-Briggs, in a goodwill message to Rivers people dated October 1, 2026, said the anniversary offered an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the nation’s journey while renewing their commitment to building a country where citizens can live with dignity, security and hope.
He said Rivers State had contributed immensely to Nigeria through its resources, enterprise and people, but regretted that the state had endured painful political tensions and crises in the last three years.
According to him, the experiences should compel Rivers people to work collectively to prevent a recurrence of political instability.
“Political power carries enormous responsibility. Government must serve the people, protect their rights, strengthen democratic institutions and create conditions in which every community and citizen can prosper,” he said.
Lulu-Briggs maintained that Rivers State belonged to all its citizens and should be guided by peace, justice, inclusion and responsible leadership.
He urged Rivers people to approach the 2027 elections peacefully and thoughtfully, encouraging them to consider the leadership, policies and values capable of promoting the unity and development of the state.
He also warned against violence, intimidation and division during political contests, stressing that political disagreements should not turn citizens into enemies.
“No election is worth the life of any Rivers child, and no political ambition is worth the peace and future of Rivers State,” he said.
The politician also expressed sympathy to victims of the recent flooding across the state, calling for decisive measures to prevent and mitigate future disasters.
He urged Rivers people to regain confidence in their collective strength and the prospects of the state, declaring: “Let us Reset Rivers State. Our finest chapter is still ahead of us.”
Lulu-Briggs congratulated Nigerians on the 66th Independence Anniversary and prayed for the continued progress of Rivers State and Nigeria.
