The Rivers State Government has announced the cancellation of the 2026 Independence Day parade in the state as Nigeria marks its 66th anniversary on October 1.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Dagogo S. A. Wokoma.
According to the statement, the decision aligns with the approach adopted by the Federal Government for this year’s national celebration.
The government said the anniversary would instead be observed in a modest and purposeful manner, reflecting the solemnity of the occasion and the shared responsibility of building a stronger Nigeria.
It urged Rivers people to mark the day with patriotism, reflection and renewed commitment to peace, unity and national progress.
The state government congratulated the people of Rivers State and Nigerians at home and abroad on the occasion, wishing the country a happy 66th Independence Anniversary.
