The Super Eagles of Nigeria have arrived in Bissau ahead of Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying clash against Guinea-Bissau.

The Nigerian delegation departed the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, on Sunday after completing their final training session in preparation for the Group L encounter.

The team travelled to Guinea-Bissau shortly after securing a 2-1 victory over Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Friday.

Super Eagles Media Officer, Promise Efoghe, said the team trained on Sunday morning before departing Uyo at about 5 p.m. aboard a chartered ValueJet aircraft.

According to him, the delegation arrived at the Osvaldo Vieira International Airport, Bissau, at about 8:40 p.m.

The match will see Nigeria take on a Guinea-Bissau side that opened its qualifying campaign with a 2-0 victory over Tanzania.

That result placed Guinea-Bissau ahead of Nigeria on goal difference, setting up an important Group L encounter between the two sides.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to face the Djurtus at the Estádio Nacional 24 de Setembro in Bissau on Tuesday.

Guinea-Bissau, ranked 132nd in the world and 38th in Africa, have met Nigeria four times, with Nigeria winning twice, Guinea-Bissau winning once and the other encounter ending in a draw.

The Djurtus recorded their only victory over Nigeria in 2023 during the previous AFCON qualifying campaign, when they defeated the Super Eagles 1-0 at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja.

With Tanzania already guaranteed a place at AFCON 2027 as one of the tournament’s co-hosts, the remaining teams in Group L are battling for the group’s qualification slot.

Nigeria will therefore look to build on Friday’s victory over Madagascar and strengthen its position in the group when it takes on Guinea-Bissau in Bissau.

The Super Eagles’ technical crew and players are expected to use the final preparations to adjust to the conditions in Bissau as they seek another positive result away from home.
