Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has announced plans to personally lead the campaign for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in the Federal Capital Territory.
Wike made the declaration on Friday, September 25, 2026, while speaking with journalists after inspecting the ongoing dualisation of the Phase II section of the Kuje-Gwagwalada Road.
The minister said political groups supporting Tinubu’s re-election had put their structures in place ahead of the campaign, adding that the All Progressives Congress and the President were also ready for the exercise.
“For us who are supporting Mr. President, we have put all our machinery ready to fully kick start. Very soon, I will launch the campaign team for Mr. President in FCT, and I will lead the campaign for Mr. President in FCT,” Wike said.
He added that after launching the campaign in the FCT, he would return to Rivers State to continue his political activities.
Wike linked the administration’s infrastructure projects in the FCT to its political support, saying project delivery could influence voters’ choices in the forthcoming elections.
“This is governance; this is what people are expecting, and this is what will translate to actual votes,” he said.
The minister also referred to the ongoing road construction as an example of projects that could shape residents’ perceptions of the government.
He said the government’s infrastructure projects were the “rigging” that would secure votes, while dismissing suggestions that electoral support would be obtained through other means.
During the inspection, Wike commended Gilmor Engineering, the contractor handling the project, for the pace of work along the heavily populated corridor.
He assured the contractor that funds would be made available to enable the project meet its December completion target.
Wike said he was impressed by the population along the road corridor and the enthusiasm displayed by residents during the inspection.
He expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for what he described as sustained support for the FCT Administration.
The minister said the enthusiasm of residents over the road project demonstrated the importance of infrastructure delivery to governance.
He also said the administration’s activities in the FCT would be central to the campaign for Tinubu’s re-election in the territory.
