The Delta State Police Command has arrested one suspect and launched a manhunt for two others in connection with the death of Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the state Ministry of Secondary Education.

Adeda reportedly died following an incident at the office of the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Kingsley Ashibogwu, in Asaba.

The command identified the arrested suspect as Lucky Adoh, while Enos Attah and Oputa Okestine were said to be at large.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the command had taken note of reports and allegations surrounding the incident.

According to the statement, there were allegations that Adeda was physically assaulted by the three aides to the commissioner.

Edafe said the police immediately commenced action after receiving complaints and arrested Adoh, while efforts were intensified to apprehend the two fleeing suspects.

The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel Erale, has ordered the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department to investigate the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death.

The investigation will cover available video footage, eyewitness accounts, medical records and the actions of all persons connected with the incident.

The police said the investigation was aimed at establishing the facts and ensuring that anyone found culpable faces the law.

The command assured Adeda’s family and members of the public that no person found culpable would be shielded, irrespective of status or position.

The development followed a protest by workers under the Nigeria Labour Congress, who shut the Delta State Secretariat in Asaba on Friday to demand an investigation into the director’s death.

The workers locked the entrances to the secretariat, disrupting official activities during the protest.

The police commissioner expressed condolences to Adeda’s family and assured them that justice would be pursued diligently and without fear or favour.

The command said further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
