The Nigerian Army Women Command (NAWC) has deployed female troops to a peace support mission in the Republic of Benin and security operations in Plateau State, the outgoing Commander, Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Adamu, has disclosed.

Adamu made this known while speaking with journalists during the operationalisation of refurbished operational vehicles and the renovation of the Soldiers’ Club for the command in Giri, Abuja.

He said the deployment to Benin Republic under Operation ALAFIA marked the first time female personnel of the Nigerian Army had been deployed as a complete contingent for a peace support mission.

According to him, the command also deployed personnel to Plateau State under Operation ENDURING PEACE to support efforts to restore peace and stability amid security challenges in the state.

The outgoing commander added that NAWC personnel participated in election security duties during the recently concluded Osun State governorship election.

Adamu attributed the command’s operational achievements to the support and enabling environment provided by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu.

He said his tenure also focused on strengthening the command’s operational mobility and readiness to deploy personnel at short notice.

Adamu said the Nigerian Army Women Command remained committed to supporting the Army in addressing contemporary security challenges and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.

He is expected to assume office as the pioneer commander of the newly established 8 Brigade in Ado-Ekiti.
