The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially declared its support for the G-100 initiative, a coalition of opposition leaders seeking to build a united front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the PDP said its decision was driven by what it described as the growing hardship faced by Nigerians under President Bola Tinubu's administration and the need for opposition forces to work together to offer an alternative.
The party said its participation in the G-100 process reflects its commitment to collaborating with other credible political organisations to "salvage the country" and provide Nigerians with a new direction.
PDP National Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN), said the party's involvement in the coalition was based on assurances that the process would be guided by transparency, equality, data-driven decision-making and fairness.
According to Turaki, a coalition built on those principles would produce a credible leadership capable of addressing rising poverty, worsening insecurity and other socio-economic challenges confronting the country.
The opposition party noted that its participation at the inaugural G-100 meeting held on August 31, 2026, underscores its readiness to contribute to the formation of a broad opposition platform aimed at defeating the APC in the next general election.
The PDP added that the move is consistent with its earlier commitment to partner with like-minded political parties and organisations in pursuit of national renewal and democratic governance.
