Armed kidnappers holding National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members abducted along the Aloma-Egane Expressway in Kogi State have demanded a ransom of ₦20 million for the release of each captive.
The corps members were kidnapped three days ago while travelling from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing the mandatory three-week orientation camp.
A relative of one of the victims disclosed that the kidnappers had established contact with the family and insisted on a ₦20 million payment before the corps member would be freed.
"One of our daughters was kidnapped on her way from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing the three-week orientation camp. The kidnappers are demanding ₦20 million for her release," the family source said.
The Kogi State Police Command had earlier confirmed the attack, stating that several passengers, including NYSC members, were abducted during the incident in Ofu Local Government Area.
Police later announced that a joint security operation successfully rescued 11 of the abducted victims, including the drivers of the two vehicles involved in the attack.
Despite the rescue, some corps members and other passengers remain in captivity, with security operatives continuing search-and-rescue efforts to secure their freedom.
Meanwhile, anxious families have appealed to the Federal Government, the NYSC management and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue those still in the kidnappers' custody and ensure their safe return.
