The Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, says it has recorded a major breakthrough after troops dislodged a Boko Haram/ISWAP camp and killed more than 21 terrorists during a coordinated offensive in Adamawa State.
The operation, carried out in the Kopre Mountain area of Hong Local Government Area, was jointly executed by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) Tactical Team and newly deployed troops of the 226 Battalion under Sector 4 of Operation HADIN KAI.
According to a statement by the Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, the troops acted on credible intelligence and launched a stealth operation into the rugged mountainous area before striking the terrorists' enclave in the early hours of August 27, 2026.
The military said the offensive formed part of ongoing efforts to locate and rescue victims abducted by terrorists, including residents of Mussa community kidnapped in May 2026 and schoolchildren abducted from Lassa in June 2026.
During the operation, troops engaged the terrorists in two fierce encounters, killing over 21 insurgents, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.
The troops subsequently overran and destroyed the terrorist camp, dismantling logistics facilities and further weakening the group's operational capability in the area.
Items destroyed during the exploitation of the camp included motorcycles, bicycles and jerrycans filled with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), believed to have been used to support the terrorists' mobility and logistics.
Security forces also recovered several AK-47 rifles, magazines and a large quantity of 7.62mm Special ammunition.
The military described the operation as another demonstration of the growing effectiveness of intelligence-driven operations and the ability of troops to strike terrorist hideouts in difficult terrain.
The Military High Command commended the gallantry and professionalism of the ONSA Tactical Team and Operation HADIN KAI troops, reaffirming its commitment to sustaining offensive operations until all abducted victims are rescued and lasting peace is restored across the North-East.
