The Anambra State Government has explained how it became involved with the controversial "Made in Nigeria" office, saying it was misled into believing the body was a legitimate federal agency operating under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
In a statement, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, said Governor Chukwuma Soludo received a letter from the purported Made in Nigeria Office in January 2026 requesting the nomination of a State Focal Person. She said the governor subsequently nominated her for the role in February, after which representatives from the 36 states interacted through an official WhatsApp platform on the agency's programmes.
Nnake disclosed that the office later requested Anambra State to host the South-East Made in Nigeria Fair, a proposal approved by the state government. She added that an inaugural planning meeting attended by the agency's National Coordinator was held about two weeks ago, with preparations already underway for the event scheduled for December 2 to 5, 2026.
The clarification followed revelations by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) that the agency was allegedly fake. Nnake stressed that her involvement was limited to official correspondence and engagements initiated through the purported federal office.
She maintained that she had no knowledge of, or involvement in, any activities outside the official interactions with the organisation, insisting that any other claims linked to the office were entirely beyond her knowledge or participation.
