Marwa: Destruction of ₦301bn Drugs Shows Nigeria's Resolve Against Traffickers

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), has said the public destruction of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances worth about ₦301 billion demonstrates the Federal Government's unwavering commitment to combating drug trafficking and protecting Nigerians.

Marwa made the remark during the destruction of 329,865.585 kilogrammes of assorted illicit drugs in Lagos, describing the exercise as a major step in denying criminal organisations the resources needed to sustain their illegal activities.

He said the exercise was more than an enforcement action, noting that it reflected Nigeria's determination to safeguard its citizens, strengthen national security and protect the country's future.

According to him, the destruction of the seized drugs sends a strong message that illicit substances intercepted by security agencies will never find their way back into society.

Marwa commended the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies for their continued collaboration with the NDLEA in intercepting illicit drugs at the nation's seaports, airports and land borders.

Also speaking, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, stressed the need for stronger collaboration among security and law enforcement agencies to intensify the fight against drug trafficking.

He said the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding between the Customs Service and the NDLEA on intelligence sharing, joint operations and investigations was already yielding positive results and would further strengthen efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating across the country.
