The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has directed the immediate demolition of about 30 buildings illegally erected along the Ring Road III corridor in the Karsana area of Abuja.
Wike issued the order on Thursday during an inspection of the ongoing construction of the Arterial Road N16, which stretches from Ring Road II to Ring Road III.
The minister also inspected the five-kilometre Zaudna-Kaba-Kagini Road project and the Magistrate Court complex under construction in Garki.
The demolition order followed a briefing by the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Dauda, who informed the minister that about 30 structures had been built directly on the road corridor.
Wike maintained that illegal developments would not be allowed to obstruct critical infrastructure projects or undermine the Abuja Master Plan.
He immediately directed the Department of Development Control to remove the affected structures.
“We’ll have to demolish this right now. How can it be like this? It’s a road and not a layout,” the minister said.
He described the Arterial Road N16 as a key infrastructure project and expressed confidence that it would be completed by December.
Speaking on the Zaudna-Kaba-Kagini Road project, Wike said the excitement among residents reflected the impact of government intervention on local communities.
He also expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Magistrate Court project in Garki, saying it was on course for completion before the end of the year.
According to the minister, the projects demonstrate the Federal Government’s commitment to delivering infrastructure under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
