Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called for the immediate release of the Osun State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sunday Bisi, following reports of his alleged arrest during Saturday's governorship election.

In a statement posted on his official X account and signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, the governor alleged that Bisi was arrested at his residence in Ilesa shortly after returning from casting his vote.

Adeleke described the reported arrest as an abuse of security powers and a threat to the integrity of the electoral process.

According to the governor, Bisi was taken from his home to an undisclosed location, with no explanation given for the action.

He alleged that the arrest was aimed at preventing PDP members from monitoring the collation of election results, accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC) of working with compromised security personnel. The APC has not responded to the allegation.

The governor further claimed the development formed part of a wider plot to manipulate the outcome of the election at collation centres, although he did not provide evidence to support the allegation.

Describing the incident as an assault on democracy, Adeleke urged those involved to respect the will of the electorate and allow the electoral process to proceed without interference.

He also called for the release of what he described as other political detainees across the state, insisting that elections should be conducted in an atmosphere free from intimidation or coercion.

As of the time the statement was issued, Adeleke said the whereabouts of the PDP chairman remained unknown and no official reason had been provided for his alleged arrest.

As of press time, however, no security agency had confirmed the reported arrest or accepted responsibility for detaining the Osun PDP chairman.
