NYSC Disowns Fake Redeployment Notice

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has dismissed as fake a viral notice claiming that a special redeployment window had been opened for corps members.

The scheme issued the disclaimer on Friday through its verified X account, describing the circulating message as false and urging the public to disregard it.

The fake notice, titled "URGENT NOTICE: NYSC REDEPLOYMENT," was addressed to parents and guardians. It falsely claimed that corps members could apply for redeployment due to national security concerns, health issues and the state of the nation.

It also urged corps members with "genuine grounds" to apply immediately for safety and proper placement, while directing applicants to contact two phone numbers for assistance and submit supporting documents.

Reacting to the viral message, the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters stamped the notice with a bold "FAKE NEWS" watermark and labelled it a disclaimer on its verified X handle, warning Nigerians against falling for the scam.

The scheme did not identify those responsible for circulating the false information.

The NYSC noted that fraudsters have repeatedly used fake redeployment announcements to deceive and extort money from unsuspecting corps members and their families.

The management reiterated that all deployment and redeployment processes are conducted strictly through the scheme's official portal and designated offices. It stressed that no individual or agent has been authorised to process redeployment requests or collect payments on its behalf.

The NYSC advised corps members and the general public to verify all official information through its website and verified social media platforms before acting on any notice or making payments.
