The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast three days of cloudy weather, thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across several parts of the country from Wednesday through Friday.

In its latest weather outlook issued in Abuja, the agency predicted patches of clouds over the northern region on Wednesday morning, with thunderstorms and moderate rainfall expected in parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba and Adamawa states.

NiMet said the storms would intensify later in the day, extending to Kaduna State and the entire North-East region.

For the North-Central zone, the agency forecast cloudy conditions with morning thunderstorms and light rainfall in parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Plateau and Nasarawa states. Moderate thunderstorms are also expected later in the day across Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Niger, Nasarawa, Plateau and the FCT.

In the South, cloudy skies are expected with light morning showers over parts of the South-South, while moderate rainfall is forecast later across Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo, the South-East and South-South regions.

On Thursday, NiMet predicted morning thunderstorms with moderate rainfall in parts of Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi and Gombe states, with widespread thunderstorms expected across the northern region later in the day.

The agency also forecast persistent cloudy conditions with thunderstorms and moderate rainfall throughout the North-Central region, while moderate rains are expected over Ondo State, the South-East and the South-South.

For Friday, NiMet said parts of Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Taraba states would experience morning thunderstorms, with rainfall expected to spread across the northern region as the day progresses. It also forecast thunderstorms over the North-Central states and moderate rainfall across parts of Ondo, Oyo, Enugu, Imo, the South-East and South-South.

The agency warned that strong winds could accompany thunderstorms in affected areas and advised residents to secure loose objects, avoid driving during heavy downpours, disconnect electrical appliances during storms and stay away from tall trees to reduce the risk of injuries from falling branches.

NiMet also urged airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports for safe flight planning and advised members of the public to keep track of official weather updates through its website and other communication channels.
