The Media Team of the Sultan of Sokoto has dismissed reports claiming that the Sultan, His Eminence Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for re-election in the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by Prince Bashir Adefaka, the team described the report circulating on social media as false and misleading, insisting that the Sultan has not declared support for any presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 polls.
The statement maintained that it was impossible for the Sultan, as a father figure to all Nigerians, to publicly or privately endorse any political candidate, stressing that his position requires him to remain above partisan politics.
According to the Media Team, the Sultan's traditional and religious responsibilities compel him to offer fatherly guidance, royal blessings and spiritual counsel to all Nigerians, including political leaders and aspirants, regardless of their political affiliations.
It explained that the Sultan's palace remains open to everyone without discrimination, noting that His Eminence has consistently demonstrated impartiality in his interactions with politicians and citizens across the country.
The team urged Nigerians to disregard what it described as a malicious attempt to drag the revered monarch into partisan politics for selfish interests, warning against efforts to misrepresent his position.
It also called on members of the public to reject any attempt to associate the Sultan with the campaign or candidacy of any individual ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The statement reaffirmed the Sultan's commitment to promoting peace, national unity, stability and harmonious coexistence among Nigerians, while appealing to media organisations and social media users to verify information before publishing or sharing reports capable of misleading the public or undermining respected traditional and religious institutions.
