Afrobeats superstar David Adedeji Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has disclosed that he would prefer his children not to pursue careers in the music industry, citing the challenges and sacrifices he has endured on his journey to stardom.
Speaking during an interview on Vibe, the award-winning singer said his personal experiences in the entertainment industry have made him reluctant to encourage any of his children to follow in his footsteps, despite recognising their talents.
Davido revealed that his second daughter, Hailey, has already developed a keen interest in music and possesses an impressive singing voice. According to him, she shares many of his personality traits and naturally enjoys being the centre of attention.
Reflecting on his career, the singer questioned whether his children would be able to withstand the pressures and obstacles he faced while building his brand, noting that his concerns are rooted in a desire to protect them from similar experiences.
Despite his reservations, Davido stressed that he would never stand in the way of his children's dreams. He recalled how his own parents eventually supported his decision to pursue music and said he would extend the same freedom to his children if they remain passionate and demonstrate genuine talent.
The music star concluded that while he hopes they choose different career paths, he would gladly support any of his children who prove committed to their ambitions and capable of succeeding in the industry.
