President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate dissolution of the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) on the Alienation of Federal Government Properties, bringing an end to the body established to oversee the sale, lease and privatisation of federal landed assets.
The President directed that all matters relating to the committee's activities should henceforth be handled by the Lateef Fagbemi, who will coordinate all issues concerning the dissolved committee in his capacity as Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
The directive was contained in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga.
The Presidential Implementation Committee was established in 2000 by former President Olusegun Obasanjo to supervise the privatisation, sale and lease of Federal Government landed properties under the Federal Government's monetisation policy.
The committee comprised representatives from several ministries, departments and agencies, including the then Ministry of Housing, which chaired the body, alongside the ministries of Transportation, Justice, Health and Agriculture, as well as the Nigeria Police Force and selected public and private sector stakeholders.
Its pioneer secretary was Prof. P. T. Ahire, then a Deputy Director in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
On March 22, 2001, the Federal Executive Council approved the establishment of a panel of inquiry to prepare a White Paper on issues arising from the committee's operations. The panel reportedly spent 21 months before submitting its report for government consideration.
According to the Presidency, the committee gradually exceeded its original mandate, leading to numerous legal disputes and litigations across the country.
The government said the widespread legal challenges linked to the committee's activities made its continued existence unnecessary, prompting the decision to dissolve it.
Tinubu consequently directed that, with effect from November 5, 2025, all responsibilities relating to the committee be transferred to the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation.
The President also ordered the committee's former secretary, B. S. Dutsin-Ma, to immediately stop acting on behalf of the dissolved committee or representing the Federal Government in matters connected with its former operations.
